They help protect some but all my entrances have some melting even with always using these. They are not a great solution. I think they offer some protection but it’s the equivalent of an umbrella in a hurricane. I think a better option would be to make some kind of port built into the hive that is heat resistant or make the entrances with a higher heat threshold.
I have tried a few suggestions from other owners. One is to put heat resistant silicone rubber bungs with a center hole in the round entrances. This works better than the tip protector and offers better protection to the hive in general. Problem with that is the OA will will condense when it hits the side of the frames inside the hive.
Other folks I have heard drill holes in the bottom tray and say that works well. Haven’t tried this, myself.
