Ergo Insulated Single Brood Box Beehive Set

Our Single Brood Box Beehive set is the base for all the Ergo PLUS hives we offer at Apimaye. All our 10 frame hives are shipped as single box hive (this hive). This means they have all the features, including the insulation, screen bottom board with pollen trap, queen excluder, top feeders, and 1 division board.

Ideal For:

New beekeepers who start beekeeping by buying package bees or nucs (Short for nucleus colonies). Bees will build the combs and fill it up with honey and brood in about 2-3 weeks. Keep in mind that it is difficult to maintain the colony in a single box hive. The colony will swarm when it get strong and congested. Therefore you need to either divide the colony to prevent swarming or need to buy supers of your choice.

Product Notes

  • If you are in a hot area like here in Phoenix, or have high UV index, we'd suggest you get the white hives instead of the tan colored.
  • The price will change as the frame and foundation options are chosen.
  • If you'd like to know more about our different frame options, you can read our blog post here, and decide which option is the best for you.
  • Entrance color choices are purely for aesthetics, but if you have a large apiary with Apimaye hives, we'd suggest you mix and match the entrance colors to make it easier for the bees :)

Standard features from top to bottom:

  • Insulated hive top cover
  • Top feeder (Half Feeder) (1 gallon capacity) or optional Dual Feeder
  • 1 Tan colored insulated deep brood box
  • Screened bottom board with pollen trap and drawer
  • Multi functional slot
  • 1 Division/uniting board for brood
  • Queen excluder
  • 2 Frame spacers
  • Side latches and handles

Newer to bee keeping (4th year trying to figure it out), but love these hives. So much easier for me to inspect by myself. Can't wait to see how they do through a Michigan winter

I live in extreme desert heat of the Mojave and that's why I buy these. They work but they still aren't perfect. Do your own research as I did before you buy anything. These are expensive, so is buying bees. It just made sense to stop buying bees and investing in a better hive so I don't have to buy bees all the time. These hives are nice and well built and they come with so many variables and variations that you can build the one to suit your climate and keeping needs. I'll be buying more in the future to save my bees from cooking in 165* Fahrenheit ambient temperatures. They also work very well in the extreme Northern cold. Try it I think in my opinion you'll be impressed and want to buy another one or build the existing one bigger.

    Spring 2027 TBD…

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at beekeeping and now is it. Being in zone 3, I liked the insulation aspect from the start. And lots of online reading seemed to back that up.

I also liked to be able to latch them together for high winds (mostly winter) and for an extra layer of bear protection.

What made my decision final was a local honey farm operator who said that he likes his Apimaye hives, albeit a small % of what he has, and thought it was a great design for a beginner to mess with.

I bought 2 hives (2 deeps each), one medium super, and a 7 frame nuc. All with frames and base.

It is indeed a fairly significant startup investment to be sure. But thats already faded in the excitement to be ready for spring!

They absolutely look and feel like the high quality equipment I signed up for.

Thank you Arla. Your help and advice are very much appreciated.

P.S. I’m going to keep asking for that Apimaye sticker for my Yeti cooler, off and on, until you send me one. I have time. 🤣

    Always Apimaye

I try to keep 6-8 hives going. Finally switched all (8) hives over to Apimaye. Took a few years of easing into it, but very much worth the investment. I’ve not lost a hive over winter in an Apimaye hive, due to outside conditions and we get below zero every year. The best stuff out there and always innovative additions. Thanks, TDH
