I have wooden hives as well as these insulated Apimaye hives. All I know is that I harvest honey more often from my insulated hive. I could rant about why I THINK this happens but bottom line is that it does.

It’s a thoughtfully conceived concept, with all kinds of built-in features as standard offerings. But what’s really important about these hives is that they are very well insulated. They are made of durable food-grade, high-density plastic. The hive’s double-walled sides and top are injected with polyurethane for effective insulation (like one of those high-end picnic coolers). The Apimaye insulation protects the colony in bitter cold and blistering hot weather conditions. In addition, the hive has built-in adjustable openings on the bottom board, brood box, honey supers, feeders, and hive cover for ventilation and condensation control. Collectively, these are welcome insulation features, as they mean less work and less stress for the bees to keep their environment stable during temperature extremes. It also protects the bees from the extreme heat in tropical or hot climates. In return, this ensures a healthier, robust, productive colony with a higher incidence of successful overwintering.
A properly insulated hive creates a more natural and less stressful environment for a colony.

First time having an Apimaye and so far loving it

We have really enjoyed using these, espeically being first time beekeepers. We picked these up at the NAHBE. As I got the demonstration and knowledge I noticed that having something that is insulated and has so many extra features, I couldnt pass it up especially for the price. We picked up a 3rd to have on hand for a swarm or to do a split. Whoever thought of this took time to build these and be prepared in all aspects.
