3rd year beekeeper, I have ran with Apimaye from day one. My Boyfriend is more practical than I am so we “Tried” Wood Langstroth hardware when our hives grew to larger numbers. We lost two hives to the winter weather and two weeks ago, we had our first bear attack. Our Apimaye hives protected our hives in the winter, and protected our hives from our first black bear attack, twice in one weekend. The wood hives did neither. I had no expectation that I would ever need to defend my hives from anything bigger than raccoons, but I can tell you this, every hive I own is in a Apimaye hives now. Maybe if our bear had been a Grizzle, or he brought some friends along, We may have lost our Apimaye protected bee colonies.
I can tell you without any reservation, if you run 10 hives or less 100 yards from your back door in Mid Missouri, you will never regret paying for Apimaye hives.
My bees overwintered beautifully in spite of -25F temperatures and strong winds. Sadly a bear decided it wanted a snack in the spring and rolled the hive across the field. Because the whole hive latches together and was built so well, the only damage was to the top cover, where the bear sunk his teeth in trying to get a little snack. Replaced the cover, just like new again. I’ve had bears completely destroy hives in the past. Very pleased with Apimaye hives, and buying more as the budget allows!
The quality is great! Very heavy and well built. I have no doubt these will last for many years to come!
The new single feeder is great! Much easier to deal with during inspections. Love the 8 frame bottom board and look forward to collecting pollen.
This is the year I see how good the tops work without the feeders to feed the bees in the winter. My goal is to lose none. I like the white tops much more than the orange ones. Easier to clean and looks better with the rest of the hive is white.
This completes my 14th hive. I like the build and convenience that the hives allow me to move them twice a year. The completeness keeps critters (Bear and Mice) from causing damage.
