The Smartest Hive Your Bees Will Ever Call Home
You fed your bees, treated them for mites, left an extra super of honey...but was it enough? Will it be a harsher winter? Will there be a cold snap? The weather is only getting more unpredictable. The Apimaye Ergo 10-frame insulated beehive was built to take that worry off your plate. These are our signature insulated hives, engineered by a team of bee scientists and beekeepers who've kept thousands of colonies and know exactly what they need to thrive.
Built to Work With What You Already Own
One of the features of our equipment beekeepers love is that our Ergo series thermo hive is fully compatible with US Langstroth standards, and switching is easy; just move your frames from your old wooden boxes to Apimaye. Your existing supers can stack on our boxes when you need to expand; no need to replace your whole setup. You get the benefits of an Ergo insulated hive set when you need it the most, without throwing out years of gear.
You can always expand your Apimaye setup with additional deep and medium supers as your wooden boxes start failing, or you'd like to treat yourself with perfectly fitting, easy-to-lift boxes with handles.
Why Insulation Changes Everything
Bees will do everything to keep the internal temperature stable. The more it deviates from normal, the more the colony gets stressed. Apimaye's double-walled insulated design helps bees keep the temperature stable without using too many resources.
In the winter, it would take much colder temperatures much more time to get through our insulated walls. Bees consume less honey to keep themselves warm, and can therefore last through longer and harsher winters.
Also, insulation responds best against sudden temperature changes like cold snaps. In the summer, bees have to bring water to the colony and fan just to keep the internal temperature steady so the honey doesn't melt and kill the colony. Fewer bees bringing water, more bees bringing nectar. In short, our insulated boxes equate to less stress on your bees, year-round..
A few things that make the Apimaye Ergo stand apart:
- Year-round climate control: Insulation keeps the cluster comfortable through hard freezes and scorching afternoons alike
- Built-in feeder: Every set ships with the 2-piece half feeder, so you're ready from day one
- Tough, weatherproof, bear-resistant build: Food-safe materials with UV additives designed to last season after season without warping or rotting
- Steady Construction: Stainless steel latches and handles with anchoring plates, keeping your hive together in case of extreme winds, falling trees and branches, and encroaching wildlife.
Find the Set That Fits Your Operation
Whether you're running one backyard hive or a sideliner, there's a configuration for you. If you are switching from woodenware, an easy way to start is by choosing the setup you overwinter your hive with. If you overwinter in a double brood box, start with that. If it is a deep and a medium, go with our Hybrid set. If you are a new beekeeper, start with a double brood box at least. Sets come in white, which we suggest for warmer climates, or tan, which blends in with the trees or your patio furniture. Entrance colors are purely for aesthetics for smaller yards, but mixing them up is useful for larger bee yards.
All the hives have the same features, and you can always add more supers to your setup.
A Note From People Who Actually Keep Bees
We're not marketers; we're a family of beekeepers and engineers who fell for these hives at Apimondia, where the design won gold for hive innovation. We use them, we believe in them, and we're here to answer your questions (and if we don't know, we'll ask Dad).
